Senior Eye Care In Toronto

Expert Eye Care to Preserve Your Vision and Quality of Life in Your Golden Years

Our senior eye care services are designed to address the unique vision needs of older adults.

As we age, changes in vision and eye health become more frequent, making regular eye exams crucial for early detection and management of conditions like cataracts, macular degeneration, and glaucoma. For those with diabetes, our specialized diabetic eye exams help monitor and prevent complications such as diabetic retinopathy.

At Bayview Vision, we provide expert, senior-focused care to support and protect your vision at every stage of life.

Protecting Your Vision and Eye Health As You Age

  • In Ontario, individuals aged 65 and older are considered seniors and may qualify for OHIP-covered eye exams. As we age, vision changes become more common, and the risk of cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and other eye diseases increases.

  • During a senior eye exam, our optometrists will perform a thorough evaluation of your vision and eye health. This includes testing your visual acuity, checking for refractive errors, and screening for conditions like cataracts, glaucoma, and retinal issues. If you have specific concerns, such as diabetes, we’ll include a diabetic eye exam to monitor for signs of complications. You’ll also have the opportunity to discuss any vision changes and explore personalized treatment options to support your eye health.

  • One comprehensive eye exam every 18 months for general eye health.
Annual eye exams (every 12 months) are covered for seniors with medical conditions affecting vision, such as:

    • Diabetes

    • Glaucoma

    • Macular Degeneration

    • Cataracts and other conditions requiring regular monitoring.

Please Note: OHIP does not cover advanced diagnostic imaging, such as Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scans, retinal imaging, or visual field testing. These tests may be recommended as part of a thorough assessment and are available for an additional fee.

  • Even though OHIP covers routine eye exams every 18 months, we recommend annual eye exams to detect vision problems early and ensure optimal eye health. Many serious eye diseases develop without symptoms, and early detection is key to preserving vision.
